The Nahe River

Nahe (nah-huh). We called it the Na-hee at first, so now instead of singing 'natty dred' we sing 'nahee dred'.

More truly special bicycle routes. The idea to ride along the Mosel was ditched when we read that the lesser known Nahe River region also produces wines, as well as being a major gemstone region. Everything we read about it was enticing. And it was the right decision. As advertised, 'bizarre rock formations'

Okay, not so bizarre. But to reach this lookout we climbed through forests and along a very tiny Nahe stream, through small towns and magic forests.

Towards the end of the day, we stopped in Idar-Oberstein for beers and pommes, and saw some very funny commercial zones just outside of Kirn, where we camped for the night.

When we arrived at the campsite just outside of Kirn, we saw this awesome sundog, which we thought meant rain in the morning - something we were begging for, what with the heat and the bicycle riding. But it turned out that most of the clouds are actually dispersing contrails. We saw a lot of jets pass overhead - must be along the Frankfurt approach route.
